Dorothy L. Sayers (1893 - 1957) is one of the most famous members of the Detection Club, and was the club's president for many years. In the world of detective fiction, Sayers is best known as the creator of Lord Peter Wimsey, a somewhat foppish man-about-town who dabbles in detection. Sayers also wrote a number of stories featuring Montague Egg, which appear in two of Sayers' short story collections.

Following the 1939 publication of In the Teeth of the Evidence, Sayers abandoned mystery writing in favor of more academic pursuits. Her huge body of scholarly work includes a translation of Dante's Divine Comedy.
